Transportation Department

Here at KVUSD Transportation Department, we're proud of getting students to school safely each day. We make sure safety comes first in everything we do, and we try our best to keep our transportation standards high across the district.

What We Do

Our team is full of people who work hard to give friendly, secure transportation that fits what the KVUSD community needs. We know that students need to get to school on time if they're going to learn well.

Who We Serve

We take students to school each day if they live too far to walk:

  • Kids in kindergarten to 3rd grade: if they live more than 3/4 mile away
  • Kids in 4th to 8th grade: if they live more than 1 mile away
  • High school students: if they live more than 2 miles away

Our Vehicles

We have 15 school buses that run on 9 routes to and from school. Our staff takes about 950 students to school every morning and back home in the afternoon.

Each year, our buses drive about:

  • 150,000 miles just on regular school routes
  • 44,000 more miles taking kids to field trips and sports events

We really care about connecting students with their schools safely, and making sure they get there ready to learn each day.

Assigned Bus Stop Location Form

This form must be filled out by a parent prior to the student riding the bus at the beginning of each school year, even if they have ridden previously. If you move please, fill out a new form. If you move or require an additional bus stop, please submit a new form. The assigned stops will be the only stops the student will be transported to/from. If a temporary alternative stop is needed (a day or two), a written note or a call to either the respective school office OR the Transportation Office is necessary before alternative arrangements will be made.

Zpass System

All students riding the bus must have a bus pass. The bus pass is an RFID card that students scan when boarding and exiting the bus. This technology provides several important benefits:

  • Real-time GPS location tracking of buses
  • Accurate records of who is on each bus at any given time
  • Documentation of where and when students board and exit
  • Complete ridership data for safety and contact tracing purposes
  • Enhanced ability to locate students who don't arrive at their expected destination

The transportation department frequently receives calls from parents searching for children who didn't arrive as planned. This system serves as a valuable tool for quickly locating students. The bus pass contains no personal information, so there are no privacy concerns if a card is lost.
