Parent and community involvement is essential to the success of our students and schools. KVUSD offers several opportunities for families to participate in decision-making processes, advocate for student needs, and build stronger school communities. District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC)
The District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) is a mandated advisory committee composed of parents, school staff, and community members who advise the district on programs and services for English Learners.
Purpose
DELAC serves as a voice for English Learner families and provides input on:
- Development and implementation of the district's English Learner Master Plan
- Programs and services designed to meet the needs of English Learners
- Assessment and effectiveness of English Learner programs
- District plans for professional development related to English Learners
- Parent education and involvement opportunities
Who Should Attend
Parents and guardians of English Learners are encouraged to participate. The committee welcomes all families who want to ensure that English Learner students receive high-quality educational services.

Upcoming Events
School Site Councils (SSC)
Each school in KVUSD has a School Site Council, which is a decision-making body that plays a vital role in school improvement and planning.
Purpose
School Site Councils are responsible for:
- Developing and reviewing the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)
- Monitoring school budget allocations for categorical programs
- Assessing school programs and making recommendations for improvement
- Ensuring that school goals align with district objectives and state requirements
- Reviewing student achievement data and planning interventions
Membership
Each SSC is composed of parents, teachers, staff, and administrators. Parent members are elected by parents at the school, while staff members are elected by their peers. The council must have equal representation from parents and school staff.

Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs)
Parent Teacher Organizations are volunteer groups that work to support schools through fundraising, community-building events, and enhanced educational opportunities for students.
Purpose
PTOs enhance the educational experience by:
- Organizing fundraising activities to support school programs and resources
- Planning family engagement events and activities
- Supporting teachers with classroom supplies and special projects
- Building community connections among families, staff, and students
- Advocating for student and school needs
Join Your School's PTO
All parents and guardians are encouraged to join their school's PTO. Membership often includes opportunities to:
- Attend monthly meetings and stay informed about school activities
- Volunteer for events and committees
- Participate in decision-making about fundraising and spending
- Connect with other families in your school community
