Stadium Lights Support School and Community Events
Don't Let the Lights Go Out!
Kelseyville High School Boosters is spearheading an effort to raise $500,000 to replace the stadium lights that will go dark after the 2025-26 school year.
The lights were originally installed more than 30 years ago through a partnership with PG&E and Kelseyville Boosters, but the final safety check was never completed. No doubt that had the test been done when the lights were brand new, they would have passed inspection. Unfortunately, when the oversight came to light this year as we pulled permits for other stadium renovations, the Division of the State Architect performed the final “hammer test” and informed us that the light poles do not meet current standards.
So, we are required by law to take them down at the end of the school year.
We would love to replace the old lights with new ones, but the District does not have the funds. It will require the support of our community to make this happen. The District continues to squeeze every dollar for maximum impact as we use funding in accordance with the requirements that come with state and federal monies. But we do not have $500,000 we can earmark for stadium lights.
As the days get shorter through fall and winter, new stadium lights would allow us to support (and even expand) evening events, including high school football and soccer games and practices. In replacing the lights, we would put more lights on the north poles to illuminate additional fields for night practices. Keeping KHS football games on Friday nights would allow the Kelseyville Chiefs Youth Football league to continue to use the stadium on Saturdays.
And it’s not just about sports. Traditionally, we hold our high school graduation ceremony in the evening under the lights, as well as other school and community events.
We are grateful to the KHS Boosters for their hard work and dedication to this effort.
