Stadium Lights Support School and Community Events

Don't Let the Lights Go Out!

Kelseyville Unified School District needs to raise $500,000 to replace the stadium lights or else they will go dark after the 2025-26 school year.

What Happened?

The lights were originally installed in the early 1990s through a partnership with PG&E and Kelseyville Boosters, but the final safety inspection was never completed. In 2022, when we pulled permits for other stadium renovations, we discovered this oversight. The Division of the State Architect then performed the required final "hammer test" in 2024, and two of the light poles failed to meet current safety standards.

We are now required by law to take them down at the end of the school year.

Where We Stand

Good news, the District has already set aside approximately $250,000 of the $500,000 needed—we're halfway there!

We explored using bond funding to cover this project, but unfortunately the bond measure did not pass. The District continues to squeeze every dollar for maximum impact as we use funding in accordance with the requirements that come with state and federal monies. However, we need the support of our community to raise the remaining funds.

The District is also actively pursuing grants and other funding sources, and we will keep the community updated on our progress.

Why This Matters

As the days get shorter through fall and winter, new stadium lights would allow us to support (and even expand) evening events, including high school football and soccer games and practices. In addition to replacing the current lights, we would put more lights on the north poles to illuminate additional fields for night practices.

Keeping KHS football games on Friday nights would allow the Kelseyville Chiefs Youth Football league to continue to use the stadium on Saturdays.

And it's not just about sports. Traditionally, we hold our high school graduation ceremony in the evening under the lights, as well as other school and community events.

We must raise $500,000 for new lights to ensure:

  • Friday night football games under the lights
  • Evening football practices
  • Evening soccer games and practices
  • Saturday games for Kelseyville Chiefs Youth Football
  • Evening events for other school and community groups
  • Evening high school graduation ceremony
