Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
KVUSD is proud to offer the nationally recognized Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. AVID is a college and career readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and succeed in higher education and beyond.
What is AVID?
AVID targets students who are first-generation college-bound or who come from historically underrepresented populations in higher education. The program focuses on the least served students in the academic middle (typically B, C, and even D students) with the desire to go to college or a trade school and the willingness to work hard.
AVID students learn:
- Organizational and study skills
- Critical thinking strategies
- How to ask probing questions
- How to participate in collaborative learning
- Writing and reading skills for academic success
How to Get Involved?
Each year in the Spring, students and their families can apply (or reapply) for the AVID Elective class by completing a paper application packet.
For application packets and more information:
- Ask any AVID teacher
- Visit the school office
Applications for the following school year are accepted during Spring enrollment period.
