NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JAN. 19 – MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY
KVUSD schools will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As we honor Dr. King’s legacy, we reflect on his teachings of love, compassion, and treating every person with fairness and respect. These are values we strive to instill in our students every day as we work toward a more just and equitable future for all.

COUNSELORS' CORNER – HAPPY JANUARY!
The new year is a great time to reset routines and focus on healthy habits that support children's success at school. One of the most important habits is getting enough sleep. Sleep plays a big role in children’s learning, behavior, and emotional well-being. When children are well-rested, they are better able to focus, manage their emotions, solve problems, and keep trying even when schoolwork feels challenging.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends the following amounts of sleep, based on age group:
- 4 to 12 months – 12 to 16 hours
- 1 to 2 years – 11 to 14 hours
- 3 to 5 years – 10 to 13 hours
- 6 to 12 years – 9 to 12 hours
- 13 to 18 years – 8 to 10 hours
We truly appreciate the support of our parents and families, and thank you for all that you do to encourage healthy habits that help children feel rested, confident, and ready to learn each day. Here is an article on the “Importance of good sleep routines for children.”
