INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY – OCT. 13
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Native Peoples, both nationally and within our local community. We recognize the enduring presence and influence of local tribes that continue to shape our community today. At the same time, we acknowledge the painful history of violence, injustice, and discrimination faced by Native Peoples—struggles that persist in many forms today. As a district, we remain committed to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society for all. For more resources, visit: www.redbudresourcegroup.org
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) & ELAC MEETING – OCT. 15
Join us on Wednesday, October 15th, at 2:30 pm in Room B4 for our first School Site Council and ELAC meetings of the year!
VOLUNTEER FOR FALL FESTIVAL!
Our Lights on Afterschool Trunk or Treat Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 24. This year, we’re combining our annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat with EDMO’s nationwide Lights on Afterschool event, hosted by the Riviera PTO & Riviera EDMO. Families can look forward to all the favorites – Haunted Greenhouse, carnival games, raffle baskets, costume contests, great food, and more – plus exciting new additions like local vendors, a 5th-grade candy and caramel apple station, and even a laser tag arena! Keep an eye out for more details, and if you’d like to help or sign up your vehicle for Trunk or Treat, please email riv.elementary.pto@gmail.com.
EXTRA CLOTHES, EXTRA CARE
We like to keep extra clothes on hand at school for those unexpected spills, messes, or rainy-day adventures, but our supply is running low. If you have gently used pants, tops, jackets, or sweaters you’d like to donate, please drop them off in the office. We’re also in need of unopened packages of underwear. Thank you so much for helping us take care of our students!
COUNSELOR’S CORNER
October is National Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month, a time for schools and families to come together to ensure that every student feels safe, respected, and valued. At Riviera Elementary School, we are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) school. This means we focus on teaching and recognizing positive behaviors that promote a positive school culture through three core expectations:
- Be Safe
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
This month, we are excited about our Anti-Bullying Poster Contest for 2nd-5th grade students! Students are invited to create a poster promoting kindness, respect, and standing up to bullying. These posters will be displayed throughout our school the week of October 20th.
