January 9, 2026: Principal's Notes

KVUSD-Mountain Vista

WELCOME BACK!
We're thrilled to kick off the second half of the school year! As we dive into 2026, we want to emphasize how important attendance is for your student's success. When students show up every day, they don't miss key lessons, stay connected with their peers, and build habits for long-term achievement.

Congratulations to our December attendance winners: Carlos Flores Ponce, Bruno Castro, and Madisyn Brosseau! These students are part of the LCOE Attendance Challenge, and your student can be too! Every student who misses one day or fewer each month is entered into our monthly drawing for cool prizes. The January drawing will be on Tuesday, February 3rd. Let's keep the momentum going, Mountain Vista!

JOHN BERRY BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT – JAN. 9 & 10
Come support our student athletes at the John Berry Boys Basketball Tournament! Games continue today (Friday) from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm and tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm at the MUR and KHS gyms. You can view the schedule here. Let's show our Mountain Vista pride!

WINTER WELLNESS
Cold and flu season is here! Please remind your student to wash their hands regularly, keep hands away from their face, and respect personal space.  If your student needs to miss school due to illness, please call the office to let us know. Thank you for helping keep our school community healthy.

HOLIDAY HAUL HEADS-UP
We know students received some awesome gifts over the holidays; new cards, games, and toys are exciting! However, we don't want anything getting lost, broken, or causing distractions, so we ask that students keep those special treasures at home for after-school play. Thanks for your understanding!

DELAC MEETING – JANUARY 12
Join us for our first District English Language Advisory Committee meeting of 2026 on January 12 at 5:30 pm in the KHS library. Children are welcome, we'll have a room set up with coloring activities and a movie so the kids can enjoy themselves while you meet with us. See you there!

BASKETBALL SEASON IS IN FULL SWING!
Don't forget to check out our sports schedules to catch all our boys and girls basketball games. Grab a snack at the snack shack and show your support for our amazing student athletes!

ONLINE SAFETY WORKSHOP COMING SOON
On January 26th and 27th, all students will participate in a Polly Klaas Foundation presentation focused on social media safety and making smart choices online. This workshop gives students practical tools to navigate the digital world safely. We had a great district-wide session for parents recently, and now it's our students' turn to get this valuable information! If you have questions about the presentation or prefer your student not attend, please contact the office.

8TH GRADE HEALTH EDUCATION
Starting at the end of January, our 8th-grade students will begin a comprehensive health education course designed to give them important knowledge about wellness, decision-making, and healthy relationships. This information equips our students with the skills they need to navigate their teenage years safely and with the knowledge to make informed choices. If you have questions about the curriculum or prefer to handle these topics at home, please contact the office!
